Shocking attack on Lancaster EMS worker leads to felony charges

Lancaster man accused of choking EMS worker waives hearing, case moves to county court

LANCASTER, PA – A man accused of choking a Lancaster EMS captain who was trying to help him has waived his preliminary hearing, sending the case to county court for prosecution.

Rashaun Marquis Sligh, 33, who has no fixed address, is facing multiple charges including aggravated assault, resisting arrest, evading arrest on foot, public drunkenness, and drug paraphernalia possession. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Judge John Bender on November 14.

The charges stem from a violent outburst on the morning of November 6, when first responders were dispatched to the intersection of South Water and West Farnum streets after Sligh was found unconscious. As the EMS captain began providing medical aid, Sligh allegedly regained consciousness and grabbed the victim by the throat, choking him. A bystander intervened to free the EMS worker from the attack.

Sligh then fled on foot and ignored police commands. Officers eventually caught up to him on South Prince Street, where he allegedly resisted arrest and required the use of a stun gun to be subdued. Once in custody, Sligh was reportedly incoherent and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Police later found two glass crack pipes and a marijuana grinder in his possession.

Sligh remains in Lancaster County Prison on $100,000 bail.
