QUEENS – A joyful celebration turned into a tragedy early Saturday morning when gunfire erupted at a baby shower in Queens, leaving one man dead and three others injured.
Police responded to reports of a shooting around 1:30 a.m. near 108-11 Atlantic Avenue in Richmond Hill, where a group had gathered to celebrate the upcoming arrival of a new baby.
According to a police source, the shooting occurred outside the venue, with an unknown assailant opening fire on the crowd.
Photographs from the scene depict chaos and devastation, with overturned tables and party decorations strewn across the floor, painted in hues of pink and blue. Both entrance doors of the venue bore the scars of more than a dozen bullet holes, evidence of the harrowing ordeal.
Upon their arrival, officers found four men suffering from gunshot wounds. Among them, a 24-year-old man was shot in the chest and was later pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. The other victims, aged 45, 26, and another 24-year-old, sustained injuries to their leg and arm, respectively. Thankfully, they are currently listed in stable condition.
As authorities continue their investigation into the incident, many questions remain unanswered, including the motive behind the shooting. No arrests have been made at this time, leaving the community shaken and seeking justice for the senseless violence that marred what should have been a joyous occasion.
