CVS employee’s phone recovered after South End chase

BOSTON, Mass. — A 43-year-old man was arrested late Monday night after allegedly stealing a CVS employee’s phone and fleeing down Boylston Street wearing a ski mask, police said.

Officers assigned to District D-4 responded at approximately 10:45 p.m. to 587 Boylston Street for a report of an unarmed robbery inside a CVS Pharmacy. According to investigators, a male suspect took an employee’s phone and ran from the store.

As an officer arrived, a store employee pointed out the suspect running along Boylston Street. The officer pursued and detained the individual a short distance away.

Police recovered the stolen phone and returned it to the victim.

During a search incident to arrest, officers located four plastic bags of cocaine in the suspect’s pocket, authorities said.

Jason Johnson, 43, of Wenham, was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of unarmed robbery and possession of a Class B drug.

The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
