Barnwell, SC – A 62-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of murder following the discovery of a missing 17-year-old pregnant girl found dead in a ditch. The victim, Maylashia Hogg, who was nine months pregnant and due to give birth on Valentine’s Day, was found with multiple sharp force wounds and incisions.
The suspect, Jacqueline Reid, faced a court appearance on Tuesday where she was denied bond. During the hearing, Reid told the judge, “I don’t wanna talk to you,” while Hogg’s grieving family looked on.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) linked Reid to the murders of Hogg and her unborn child, Londyn Charity, through forensic evidence discovered at Reid’s home in Barnwell. Warrants allege that the murders occurred on February 8, the day Hogg was last seen alive. A missing person alert was issued on Valentine’s Day, the day Hogg was due to give birth, and her body was found on February 18.
Authorities stated that Reid “did with malice aforethought, either express or implied, murder the victim, Maylashia S. Hogg, who was 40 weeks pregnant, by stabbing her multiple times with a sharp-edged weapon.” A search warrant executed at Reid’s home revealed forensic evidence of the crime.
Hogg was last seen near Reid’s residence, where her body was eventually discovered. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as multiple sharp force wounds and incisions.
