I‑95 rear‑end crash leads deputies to drunk driving suspect
Stafford, VA — A Friday night hit‑and‑run on an I‑95 exit ramp ended with deputies locating the suspected driver still behind the wheel of his vehicle, where they say he admitted leaving the scene and showed signs of intoxication.
Around 10:36 p.m. on December 5, deputies were called to the northbound I‑95 exit ramp at Courthouse Road after a driver reported being rear‑ended by another vehicle that did not stop. Deputies obtained the suspect vehicle’s description and registration, which led them to a phone number associated with the driver.
Deputy S. M. Kotter contacted the suspect, who admitted to being involved in the collision and failing to remain at the scene. Kotter then went to the individual’s residence, where he found the man seated in the driver’s seat of the same vehicle.
Deputies reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man. Field sobriety tests were conducted, and the driver — identified as 42‑year‑old Jonathan Yepes of Stafford — was arrested.
Yepes was charged with driving under the influence with an elevated blood alcohol content and with hit and run. He was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail and held under a secured bond.
