Staten Island man attacked and robbed near Bay Street and Virginia Avenue

STATEN ISLAND, NY – A 20-year-old man was attacked and robbed Thursday night in a violent encounter near Bay Street and Virginia Avenue, authorities said.

The incident happened around 9:21 p.m. when an unidentified assailant approached the victim from behind.

Police said the attacker punched and choked the man before stealing his backpack and about $300 in cash.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot, heading eastbound on Virginia Avenue, leaving the victim injured in the street.

Victim hospitalized after assault

Emergency responders transported the victim to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was treated for pain and redness to the body. Officials said he was listed in stable condition.

Detectives canvassed the area for surveillance footage and witnesses following the assault. The motive appears to have been robbery, though no arrests have been made.

Description of the suspect

The suspect is described as a male with a light complexion, last seen wearing a white tank top and black pants.
