As of Friday morning, drivers across New Jersey are encountering delays on several major highways and tunnels due to a mix of heavy traffic, sun glare, and incidents.
On I-295 northbound, traffic is moving slowly from Westville to Tavistock, with sun glare contributing to delays. All lanes remain open, but drivers are advised to proceed with caution.
The Holland Tunnel is seeing delays in the eastbound lanes, with a travel time of 15 to 20 minutes from New Jersey to New York. The Lincoln Tunnel is also congested, with 30-minute delays reported in both the center and south tunnels on the New Jersey side.
In Newark, both NJ 21 northbound and southbound are experiencing delays, with travel times ranging between 10 and 15 minutes. Similarly, I-280 eastbound is backed up between East Orange and Newark, adding an additional 5 to 10 minutes to travel times.
On the New Jersey Turnpike, drivers heading toward the George Washington Bridge are facing delays of about 1.5 miles in both the express and local lanes. This is due to an incident on the Cross Bronx Expressway. Travel time on the bridge itself is approximately 45 minutes for both the upper and lower levels, extending from I-80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge.
Sun glare, volume, and ongoing incidents are expected to keep traffic moving slowly through much of the morning.
