Suspect arrested in fatal Northeast D.C. shooting of 44-year-old man

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man wanted in connection with the September shooting death of a Northeast D.C. resident was arrested Friday by members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.

The shooting occurred on September 14, when officers responded to the 2200 block of Adams Place Northeast at approximately 5:08 a.m. and found 44-year-old Erik Mewborn unconscious with a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and EMS pronounced Mewborn dead at the scene after finding no signs of life.

On November 22, authorities located and arrested 25-year-old Jeremiah Simms of Capitol Heights, Maryland. Simms was charged with second-degree murder while armed under a warrant issued by D.C. Superior Court.

The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and provided no further details about a potential motive or other suspects.
