Suspected DUI stop in Bensalem leads to gun seizure, drug arrest

BENSALEM, Pa. — A suspected DUI traffic stop in the early hours of December 8 led Bensalem Police to arrest a Philadelphia man for firearm and drug offenses after officers discovered a loaded handgun and suspected marijuana packaged for sale.

Around 2:00 a.m., officers stopped a black Nissan Rogue on Knights Road near Dunksferry Road after observing multiple traffic violations, including inoperable rear lights and failure to use a turn signal. The driver, identified as Khalil Laney, 34, of Bonsall Street, Philadelphia, appeared intoxicated and was found to be carrying a revoked Pennsylvania Permit to Carry a Concealed Firearm.

Despite initially claiming he had no firearm, a pat-down revealed a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun in Laney’s waistband. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered suspected marijuana packaged for sale. Field sobriety tests determined that Laney was too impaired to safely operate a vehicle.

Laney was charged with DUI, carrying a firearm without a license, possession with intent to deliver, and traffic violations. He was arraigned by District Justice Daniel Baranowski and remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10% of $35,000 bail.
