Days long crime spree ends in chase arrest for Swannanoa man facing 50 charges

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, NC — A multi-day crime spree stretching across several Western North Carolina jurisdictions came to an end Thursday when deputies arrested a 50-year-old Swannanoa man after a brief chase in a stolen vehicle.

Investigators with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office IGRANT team and Criminal Investigations Division took Bryan George Coleman into custody Feb. 5. Authorities said the spree began the morning of Feb. 3 and continued through late Feb. 5 before his arrest.

Coleman was located driving a vehicle reported stolen and was apprehended following a short pursuit. During the investigation, deputies also recovered a second stolen vehicle from Black Mountain after speaking with him.

The case involved coordination with the Black Mountain Police Department and the Montreat Police Department.

Coleman faces multiple charges, including one count of felony first-degree burglary; 24 counts of felony uttering a forged instrument; seven counts of felony obtaining property by false pretense; one count of felony attempted obtaining property by false pretense; nine counts of felony financial card theft; one count of felony larceny after breaking or entering; four counts of misdemeanor financial card fraud; one count of felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle; one count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; one count of felony fleeing to elude arrest; one count of no operator’s license; one count of reckless driving to endanger; and one count of failure to stop at a steady red light.

Sheriff’s officials said the case was resolved through coordinated efforts between agencies across the county.
