Brooklyn Man Sentenced for 2018 Fatal Shooting

**Brooklyn, NY** – A Brooklyn man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the 2018 shooting of a 15-year-old boy at the Bushwick Houses. The shooting also wounded a 43-year-old man.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the sentencing of Elijah Harris, 25, of Bedford-Stuyvesant. On Tuesday, Harris received his sentence from Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Donald Leo for charges of second-degree murder, second-degree assault, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Evidence presented in court indicated that on July 17, 2018, Harris rode a bicycle near 370 and 390 Bushwick Avenue. He then fired at least nine shots into a playground and courtyard, hitting Kyon Jackson, 15, and a 43-year-old man.

Jackson was pronounced dead at Woodhull Hospital after the shooting. Harris was arrested shortly thereafter, and the firearm was recovered by police.

**Ocean County, NJ** – Michael Mattina, 59, of Matawan, was sentenced on January 3 to a total of nine years in New Jersey State Prison. The sentence, announced by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, includes five years for Distribution of Child Pornography and four years for Invasion of Privacy, to be served consecutively.

The investigation, conducted by the Brick Township Police Department Detective Bureau and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, revealed that Mattina secretly recorded six females, including a 16-year-old, using a hidden camera. The videos were posted on two adult websites.

Mattina faced multiple charges on August 17, 2020, including Invasion of Privacy, Distribution of Obscene Materials, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Manufacturing Child Pornography, and Distribution of Child Pornography. He surrendered to Brick Township Police, receiving a summons for court appearances in Ocean County Superior Court.

Two Philadelphia Caregivers Sentenced for Neglect and Fraud

**HARRISBURG, PA** – Attorney General Michelle Henry announced prison and probation sentences for two Philadelphia direct care workers responsible for neglecting a quadriplegic relative, resulting in critical hospitalization.

Rashina Long and Jasmine Long, the victim’s mother and sister, pleaded guilty in September to charges of neglecting a care-dependent person and committing Medicaid fraud. On Thursday, both women were sentenced to two to four years in prison, followed by seven years of probation. Additionally, they are barred from working as care workers during this time.

The victims’ relatives, Rashina Long, 48, and Jasmine Long, 33, were employed to assist with tasks like bathing and meal preparation. Their neglect led to hospitalization of the victim in October 2022.

The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office investigation revealed fraudulent billing to Medicaid exceeding $140,000 between December 2021 and September 2022. The victim suffered severe pressure wounds, malnourishment, and dehydration, necessitating several medical procedures.

Senior Deputy Attorney General Benjamin McKenna prosecuted the case.
