Teen robbed at gunpoint for designer sneakers in brazen Northeast holdup

Washington, DC – A teenager was forced to give up his ski mask and designer tennis shoes at gunpoint during an armed robbery on Minnesota Avenue in Northeast, police said Friday following the arrest of a suspect.

The robbery occurred on Monday, August 12, 2024, around 6:20 p.m., when the victim was approached by an armed individual in the 3800 block of Minnesota Avenue. The suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm, demanded the teen’s personal belongings, and then fled the area with the items.

More than a year after the incident, police identified and arrested 19-year-old Nyale Battles of Southeast, DC, in connection with the robbery. The arrest took place on Thursday following the execution of a DC Superior Court arrest warrant.

Battles has been charged with Armed Robbery (Gun). The case remains under investigation.
