BEL AIR, MD – A late-night traffic stop turned into a high-speed pursuit Saturday after a driver fled from a Harford County deputy on Emmorton Road, authorities said.

Deputy First Class Yinger of the Southern Precinct had pulled over a speeding truck when the driver suddenly accelerated and took off.

Deputies pursued the vehicle into a storage facility, where the driver attempted to evade arrest by weaving between units before crashing.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident following the collision.

Pursuit ends inside storage facility

According to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect entered the gated facility using an access code and continued to flee through the property. Deputies quickly contained the area and located the driver after the crash.

During the investigation, deputies discovered that the driver had thrown a bag onto a rooftop. Inside, they found a loaded handgun later confirmed to be stolen.

Deputies credited for swift arrest

Officials praised DFC Yinger and the Southern Precinct’s midnight shift for their fast response and coordination in safely apprehending the suspect.

The sheriff’s office said the firearm has been recovered and removed from circulation. The driver, whose name has not yet been released, faces charges related to fleeing, illegal possession of a firearm, and theft.
