Ten seconds of gunfire rattled West Philly corner and left four children shot in mass shooting

Breaking news: Police seeking suspects, release video

PHILADELPHIA — A shocking afternoon shooting in West Philadelphia left five people wounded, including two children, as police search for multiple suspects captured on video fleeing the scene.

The quintuple shooting erupted around 4:05 p.m. near 56th and Christian Streets in the city’s 18th District, according to the Philadelphia Police Department. Authorities are urging the public to help identify the individuals shown in surveillance footage tied to the incident.

Among the victims were an 11-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy, both rushed by officers to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. They are currently listed in stable condition.

A 16-year-old male, critically injured, was taken by private vehicle to HUP Cedar before being transferred to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Another 16-year-old male was also taken to Penn Presbyterian and is in stable condition.

The fifth victim, a 32-year-old man, suffered a graze wound to the hand and is recovering.

Police have not yet identified a motive and no arrests have been made. The case is being handled by the department’s Shooting Investigation Group.

Video from the scene is under review as the investigation continues.

Police said, “These males are believed to be involved in a quintuple shooting that occurred in the area of 56th and Christian Streets.”
