A 40-year-old man is facing a felony charge after police say a domestic dispute escalated into a violent assault inside a Waco home, leaving a pregnant woman hospitalized and a young child present during the incident.
WACO, TX – Officers responding to a 911 call on Monday found a woman sitting on the floor of her home on Misty Drive, complaining of numb legs and throat pain after what she said was a prolonged strangulation. The suspect, identified as Jacob Daniel Vega, was taken into custody at the scene and later charged with aggravated assault – family violence, according to the Waco Police Department.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KWTX, the situation began when the woman called 911 and said, “I can’t take this anymore,” adding that she had “got into it with someone.”
Details from arrest affidavit
When officers arrived, Vega approached a patrol vehicle and told them he and his wife had been involved in an altercation. He said the argument began while he was inside a locked bedroom and his wife was banging on the door. Vega told officers he became angry, opened the door, and moved a shoe rack into another room.
After that, Vega allegedly told police the argument intensified and he “lost it,” according to the affidavit. He admitted that both he and his wife were putting their hands on each other before he pinned her down and began strangling her.
Police said Vega told them to check on the victim after the incident. He was then handcuffed and placed in a patrol car.
Victim’s condition and injuries
Officers reported visible injuries consistent with strangulation, including redness on the woman’s neck and broken blood vessels in both eyes. The victim told police Vega strangled her for two to three minutes while sitting on top of her, stopping only when she went limp.
The woman, who was seven weeks pregnant at the time, was transported to Hillcrest Hospital for evaluation. The couple’s young child was in the room during the assault, according to the affidavit.
Authorities said the couple has been married for six years and living together for the past two. Vega was booked into the McLennan County Jail following his arrest, though current records do not list him as an active inmate.
