Three dead, one injured in Coram from suspected bad batch of narcotics, police warn

CORAM — The Suffolk County Police Department issued a warning Friday after three people died and one person was seriously injured from apparent overdoses tied to a suspected bad batch of narcotics.

The department said the overdoses occurred in Coram and are linked to a “potentially deadly substance” present in the drugs. Authorities have not specified the type of narcotic involved.

“We are urging people to use caution due to this potentially deadly substance present in the drugs,” police said in a public statement.

The department has deployed its Medical Crisis Action Team (MedCAT) to the area. The team is specially trained in advanced life support and overdose response.

Detectives from both the Homicide Section and Narcotics Section are investigating the deaths and working to determine the source of the drugs.

The statement was issued by Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine and Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina.
