Today is Toms River’s Extra Passover Trash Pickup Day

TOMS RIVER, NJ – The Toms River Department of Public Works will be conducting an extra trash pickup day today to accommodate the discarded food products ahead of Passover.

If you’re celebrating Pesach, or Passover, Toms River Mayor Maurice Hill wants you to know there will be an extra trash pickup on April 11th.In a deal brokered between Mayor Hill and the Toms River Jewish Community Council, township Department of Public Works trash collectors will make an additional pickup run on April 11th. According to the TRJCC, trash must be left at the curb but not in township trash receptacles.

The Toms River Jewish Community Council is a small group of men who represent the Orthodox Jewish community as a liaison with the mayor and the Toms River Council. The TRJCC were also political sponsors and supporters of Mayor Hill’s political election campaign.

The township will also place several dumpsters throughout the town on the day of Bedikas Chametz in order to safely dispose of unwanted food.

According to Chabad.org, Chametz (also spelled “hametz” or “chometz”) is any food product made from wheat, barley, rye, oats or spelt that has come into contact with water and been allowed to ferment and “rise.”

There will be no regularly scheduled trash pickup on April 15th. The township has not published an official notice of this event.
