TOMS RIVER, NJ — A 20-year-old Toms River man has been sentenced to New Jersey State Prison following his guilty pleas to aggravated assault and a weapons offense stemming from a 2024 shooting incident, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Key Points

  • Anthony Brown, 20, was sentenced to concurrent prison terms totaling five years
  • Brown shot a man during a June 2024 incident in Toms River and fled the scene
  • The victim recovered from his injuries; Brown has been jailed since his arrest

Anthony Brown was sentenced on March 21, 2025, by Judge David M. Fritch to four years for aggravated assault and five years for possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, with a mandatory 42-month parole ineligibility. The sentences will run concurrently.

The charges relate to a June 12, 2024, incident in which Brown retrieved a handgun from a residence on Adams Avenue and fired two shots at a vehicle, striking a male victim. Brown fled the scene, and the victim left the area as well.

Shortly afterward, Toms River Police responded to a second location on Main Street and identified the shooting victim, who was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and later released.

Brown was arrested near the original scene without incident and has remained in custody at the Ocean County Jail since his arrest.
