Tractor trailer overturns on I 68 in Cumberland closes road for five hours

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A tractor-trailer crash shut down a portion of Interstate 68 westbound for several hours Wednesday night after a rollover near Johnson Street, according to the Cumberland Police Department.

Authorities said they responded to the scene at around 8:40 p.m., where they found a fully loaded 2016 Freightliner truck overturned. The vehicle had rolled while attempting to navigate a turn. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The driver, a 54-year-old man from Clinton, N.C., appeared to be uninjured but was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation as a precaution.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, police believe speed may have played a role. Officials worked through the night to remove the truck and clear the roadway.

Cleanup and recovery efforts kept westbound lanes of I-68 closed for approximately five hours.
