LINDEN, N.J. — Multiple traffic incidents and delays were reported across New Jersey’s highways and major roadways early Wednesday morning, impacting commuters statewide.

At 8:27 a.m., a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike’s outer roadway northbound, just north of Interchange 13 near the I-278/Goethals Bridge in Linden, resulted in the blockage of two right lanes. Additionally, delays in the vicinity extended north of Interchange 12 in Carteret, creating a 3.5-mile backup.

Just one minute earlier, at 8:26 a.m., an accident on I-78 westbound express lanes east of Exit 52 at the Garden State Parkway in Hillside Township blocked one left lane. This added to already heavy traffic conditions in the area.

In Clifton, a disabled vehicle on NJ 21 southbound was reported on the ramp to Exit 9 (NJ 3) at 8:25 a.m., with the left lane closed. Meanwhile, the Garden State Parkway northbound near Exit 132 in Woodbridge Township saw a partial ramp closure following a crash at 8:04 a.m.

Delays were also extensive across major routes into New York City. The Lincoln Tunnel reported 45-minute delays eastbound through the center and south tunnels at the Weehawken toll plaza as of 8:26 a.m. The George Washington Bridge experienced travel times of up to 50 minutes from I-80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge on its upper level, with 40-minute delays on the lower level.

Elsewhere, congestion continued on the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Turnpike, and I-280, adding significant travel time for commuters. The Garden State Parkway southbound from Paramus to Saddle Brook Township saw 2.5-mile delays due to volume, while a substantial 8.5-mile delay was recorded southbound from East Orange to Kenilworth.

New Jersey Transit has advised drivers to exercise caution and anticipate extended travel times due to the high volume of traffic and various incidents throughout the morning commute.
