Two more men charged in Maywood jewelry store armed robbery after 19-month investigation

MAYWOOD, NJ – Two additional suspects have been charged in connection with a violent 2024 jewelry store robbery in Maywood, marking the latest arrests in a sweeping, 19-month investigation that has now implicated six men across multiple states.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced that 28-year-old Daiker Yair Rivero Urbano of Detroit, Michigan, has been arrested and extradited to New Jersey, while 26-year-old Christian Ricardo Vera Castillo of Brooklyn, New York, has been charged and remains wanted.

The Maywood Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad began investigating after an April 23, 2024, armed robbery at a jewelry store on West Pleasant Avenue. Two masked men armed with handguns entered the business, held an employee and a customer at gunpoint, and attempted to restrain them with duct tape and zip ties before fleeing.

Investigation uncovers broader conspiracy

Detectives later identified four suspects — Beiker Aguilera Areyan, Daniel Rivas-Alvarado, Yeison Amarante Bolivar, and Jhon Requena Yerena — as part of the robbery crew. Those men were arrested in 2024 following a nationwide search, with three held at the Bergen County Jail and one still awaiting extradition from Florida.

Further investigation linked Rivero Urbano and Vera Castillo to the planning and execution of the robbery. Authorities said the suspects used mopeds and a getaway vehicle to flee the scene.

Arrest in Detroit; fugitive still at large

Rivero Urbano was apprehended on November 5 in Detroit with assistance from U.S. Homeland Security Investigations and Customs and Border Protection. He was extradited to Bergen County on November 19 and remains detained at the county jail.

Vera Castillo has not yet been located and is considered a fugitive. Prosecutors are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Tips Line at (201) 226-5532.

Multiple agencies credited in nationwide effort

Prosecutor Musella thanked numerous law enforcement partners, including the FBI’s North Jersey Violent Crimes and Safe Streets Task Force, the NYPD, Maywood Police, and agencies in California, Florida, and Michigan for their coordination in the case.

Six men have now been charged in the 2024 Maywood armed robbery, with one suspect still on the run following a multistate investigation led by Bergen County authorities.
