New Boating Regulations in New Jersey for 2024 Season

TRENTON, NJ—The New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau has announced two significant updates to the state’s boating regulations for the upcoming 2024 season, aimed at enhancing safety on the water.

The first change, Regulation 13:82-1.13, concerns personal watercraft (PWC) operation. It stipulates that the owner or operator must not allow any passengers to ride between them and the steering controls, ensuring the operator has unobstructed control of the PWC at all times.

The second update, Regulation 13:82-3.1, affects waterskiing and wake surfing activities. It requires all power vessels involved in these activities to maintain a minimum distance of 200 feet from structures like docks, marinas, and bridges, as well as from other vessels and individuals in the water, unless otherwise specified by the chapter.

These regulations are designed to prevent accidents and improve safety for all watercraft users in New Jersey.
