DOVER, Del. — A 19-year-old man was injured in a drive-by shooting in Dover on Thursday evening, leading to a high-speed pursuit and the arrest of four juveniles who fled from a stolen SUV, Delaware State Police said.
Troopers responded around 6:14 p.m. on April 17 to the 1500 block of Nathaniel Mitchell Road, where the shooting occurred. The victim had already transported himself to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation revealed the suspect, described only as an unknown Black male, exited a maroon Kia Sportage and fired multiple shots at the victim before fleeing. A nearby house and vehicle were also struck by gunfire.
At 9:05 p.m., troopers spotted a maroon Kia Sportage matching the description of the suspect vehicle traveling on Walker Road. The SUV, reported stolen, refused to stop and led police on a chase that ended in Smyrna, on the 400 block of Sorrell Circle. Five individuals fled on foot, and four juveniles were later apprehended by troopers with the help of aviation and K-9 units.
Four minors face felony charges
The arrested juveniles included a 17-year-old male from Bethel, a 15-year-old female from Camden, and a 12-year-old female from Dover. Each was charged with receiving stolen property over $1,500 and resisting arrest. All three were released on their own recognizance to guardians following arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 7. A 10-year-old male was also detained but not charged.
Delaware State Police continue to search for the fifth suspect, who remains at large. Detectives are actively investigating the case and seeking public assistance.
