October 8, 2025

DUNWOODY, GA – A 38-year-old Uber driver has been arrested following an early-morning shooting outside a Waffle House that left a teenage girl critically injured, according to the Dunwoody Police Department.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, October 5, at the restaurant located at 4532 Chamblee Dunwoody Road.

Investigators said the driver, identified as Meredith Grundy, had arrived to pick up five juvenile females who ordered a ride home. Grundy reportedly told the group he could only take four passengers due to limited space and seatbelt availability, sparking a heated argument.

Dispute turns violent

According to police, one of the girls struck Grundy in the face while he sat inside the vehicle after threatening to kill him. Grundy then pulled a firearm and shot the 16-year-old. The other teens told officers that the alleged assault and threats occurred after the gunfire, leading detectives to review surveillance footage and witness statements.

The victim was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where she remains in critical but stable condition.

Driver faces felony charges

Grundy was arrested at the scene and booked into DeKalb County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Investigation continues

Detectives continue to gather evidence and consult with the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether additional charges will be filed.

A late-night argument over a routine Uber ride turned tragic outside a Waffle House, leaving a teenager hospitalized and a driver facing serious criminal charges.
