BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ – A U.S. Postal Service box truck careened through a suburban neighborhood early Saturday morning, smashing into five parked cars and flipping onto its side in a destructive chain-reaction crash that shut down Veterans Boulevard for hours.
The chaos began around 5:35 a.m. when the 30-foot mail truck struck a parked vehicle in front of 371 Veterans Blvd and continued veering right across two front lawns, slamming into multiple vehicles before overturning in a driveway.
The vehicle skidded more than 200 feet before crashing into the neighboring property.
Three of the struck vehicles were parked across two driveways.
The truck came to rest on its left side with no reported damage to the homes.
The driver, who suffered lacerations across his body and complained of hand pain and head trauma, told first responders he remained conscious throughout the crash. Emergency crews from Berkeley Township EMS transported him to Community Medical Center for evaluation.
Despite the extensive wreckage involving five vehicles and two residential properties, authorities confirmed there was no structural damage to any homes. Accurate Towing worked to remove all five damaged vehicles, and Veterans Blvd was fully reopened after being shut down in both directions for about three hours. The crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine what caused the driver to lose control.
