NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Village People have announced they will participate in President-elect Donald J. Trump’s 2025 inaugural festivities, marking a notable addition to the lineup of performers for the upcoming events in Washington, D.C.
In a statement released Tuesday, the disco group confirmed they accepted an invitation from Trump’s campaign to perform at multiple inauguration-related events, including at least one appearance with the president-elect. The group emphasized their commitment to keeping music separate from politics.
“We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear; however, we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics,” the band stated.
The group also highlighted their iconic hit “Y.M.C.A.” as a symbol of unity, expressing hope that their performance could contribute to healing divisions after the contentious 2024 election.
“Our song ‘Y.M.C.A.’ is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost,” the statement read.
The Village People’s participation in Trump’s inauguration comes amid ongoing public debate over celebrity involvement in political events and growing support for President Trump. The group reiterated their belief in the unifying power of music, stating their goal is to help foster national unity.
The Village People join a growing list of artists set to perform during the inauguration ceremonies scheduled for January 20 in Washington, D.C., including country music star Carrie Underwood.
