Virginia Beach police use license plate technology to arrest teen in 14th Street shooting

Virginia Beach, VA – The Virginia Beach Police Department said advanced Flock camera technology led to the swift arrest of a teenage suspect following a shooting earlier this week on 14th Street that left one man injured.

According to police, officers responded to the 800 block of 14th Street at about 11:15 a.m. on January 19, 2026, after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover.

Investigators used automated license plate technology to identify a vehicle connected to the suspect and quickly located it, leading to an arrest.

A 14-year-old male from Chesapeake has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The investigation remains ongoing under the supervision of the VBPD Homicide Unit.
