Deputies Halt Potentially Dangerous Assault in Stafford

Stafford, VA – Deputies successfully intervened in a potentially dangerous assault early Saturday morning, preventing further harm to the victim.

On July 6 at approximately 4:40 a.m., Sergeant J.D. Hurt, Deputy D.A. Robertson, and Deputy P.J. Leon responded to a disturbance at the Target located at 25 South Gateway Drive. The caller reported she was hiding in the parking lot from a male suspect threatening to shoot her. Deputies arrived promptly and observed the male suspect exiting his vehicle and aggressively approaching the victim, who was hiding under a truck.

The victim explained that she and the suspect had been at a Waffle House parking lot before being driven to the Target location. The suspect assaulted her and made threats, prompting her to escape, hide, and call for help.

The suspect, identified as Troy Lovett, 37, of Stafford, displayed several signs of intoxication, including a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. It was also discovered that Lovett had a revoked license. He was charged with assault and battery, driving under the influence, driving while revoked, and refusal to submit to testing. Lovett is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
