Washington d. C. Man indicted on felony theft charge — Police light

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dwayne Bingham, a 63-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been indicted by a grand jury for felony second-degree theft, according to U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Chief Pamela Smith. The indictment stems from an incident on December 30, 2023, involving the theft of merchandise from the Lidl store located at 3100 14th St NW.

Bingham, who has a history of theft convictions, faces enhanced penalties due to his record. This includes a mandatory minimum sentence of one year in jail for the theft charge. His arraignment is scheduled for March 21, 2024, before a Superior Court judge.

This case contributes to a larger pattern, as since September 1, 2023, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia has indicted 31 cases involving felony second-degree theft charges based on a defendant’s prior theft convictions.
