Wellsley Farms salmon sold in New Jersey recalled over possible Listeria contamination at BJ’s Wholesale Club

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Slade Gorton & Co., Inc. has issued a recall for one lot of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon sold exclusively at BJ’s Wholesale Club due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to a company announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The recall applies to lot number 3896 of the 2-pound bags, marked with UPC code 888670025963, sold between January 31 and February 7, 2026, in BJ’s stores located in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

While no illnesses have been reported to date, the company warns that Listeria infection can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience symptoms including high fever, severe headache, nausea, stiffness, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are particularly at risk, as Listeria can cause miscarriages or stillbirths.

The contamination was discovered after an FDA sampling detected Listeria monocytogenes in a random product test. Slade Gorton said it is investigating the cause and taking corrective steps to prevent future contamination.

BJ’s Wholesale Club is directly contacting members who may have purchased the affected salmon. Consumers who believe they bought the recalled product should not consume it and are advised to call 1-888-628-0730 at any time for instructions on obtaining a full refund or safely disposing of the product.
