Man accused of raping 13-year-old girl he met online arrested in Suffolk County

WEST ISLIP, NY — A Long Island man is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl he met through social media, leading to his arrest just days after the alleged attack, police said.

Michael Liontonia, 38, was taken into custody at his West Islip home after investigators say he raped the teen inside his vehicle.

Authorities said the assault occurred after the suspect connected with the victim online.

The teen reported the incident to a school guidance counselor the following day, prompting authorities to launch an investigation.

Police arrested Liontonia on March 25 — just two days after the alleged assault.

He has been charged with first-degree rape, second-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.

Detectives are now urging anyone who may have had contact with Liontonia or believes they may be a victim to come forward.

No additional details about the investigation have been released.
