Cumberland woman arrested after disturbance and police vehicle tampering

Cumberland, MD – A local woman was taken into custody Tuesday morning after creating a public disturbance outside a downtown business and later tampering with a police vehicle, according to the Cumberland Police Department.

At approximately 7:20 a.m., officers responded to a business in the 100 block of North Mechanic Street following reports of a disorderly individual. Staff told officers that a woman, later identified as 39-year-old Brittany Lynn Rice of Cumberland, had been banging on the windows after being told to leave the property.

Officers made contact with Rice and instructed her to leave the area and not return. She briefly complied but then allegedly interfered with a nearby police cruiser, prompting officers to place her under arrest.

Rice was transported to police headquarters for processing before being taken to Central Booking. She was later presented to a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing and held on a temporary commitment due to her refusal to comply.
