Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 1:00 PM, Yonkers Police and Yonkers Fire units swiftly responded to a distress call from the Yonkers Train Station, where someone was heard screaming for help from within the river.

Upon arrival, 4th Precinct units detected a male voice emanating from the tunnel beneath the train station, which links Van Der Donck Park to the Hudson River outlet. With the aid of the Emergency Service Unit and water rescue equipment, teams entered the tunnel from both ends.

Navigating through darkness, responders located the male clinging to a rock in 6 feet of water, facing an incoming tide. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the emergency units, the individual was successfully rescued and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of hypothermia.

The Yonkers Police Department commended the collaborative efforts of all involved in the rescue operation, emphasizing the importance of safety awareness around the various waterways in and around Yonkers.
