STATEN ISLAND, NY – An ongoing investigation led to the arrest of Inesis Berzins, a 79-year-old man from Staten Island, on Thursday.
Berzins is charged with Failure to Yield and Failure to Exercise Due Care, according to the police department.
On Tuesday, July 4, officers received a call about a collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Post Avenue and Decker Avenue. Upon arrival, a 60-year-old male pedestrian was found lying on the road with serious torso injuries. The injured man was taken to Richmond University Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.
Investigation by the Collision Investigation Squad showed that a brown 2010 Audi A4, driven by Berzins, was making a left turn and struck the pedestrian. The driver remained at the scene and was transported to Richmond University Medical Center with non-life threatening knee injuries.
This accident is currently under investigation, and no other details have been released. Those with information are encouraged to contact the local police.
