UNION, N.J. — A collision involving a New Jersey Transit bus and a vehicle on Friday morning left 24 people injured, according to local authorities. The crash occurred around 7:20 a.m. at the intersection of Stuyvesant Avenue and Pleasant Parkway, Union Township police said.
The incident happened when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction crossed over double yellow lines and struck the NJ Transit bus head-on, Police Director Christopher Donnelly reported. “Preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction of the bus, crossed over the double yellow lines and struck the NJ Transit bus head-on,” Donnelly said in a statement.
First responders from the Union Fire Department, with assistance from surrounding towns, arrived at the scene to assess and treat the injured. Police stated that while approximately 24 individuals were hurt, none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
Stuyvesant Avenue between Stanley Terrace and Pleasant Parkway was temporarily closed to facilitate the police investigation but has since been reopened to traffic. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Union Township authorities.
