3-Year-Old Girl Fatally Shot Inside Car in D.C.

Washington, D.C. – Detectives from the D.C. Metro Police Department’s Homicide Branch Major Case Squad are currently investigating a tragic incident involving the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old girl in Southeast D.C. The incident happened on Friday night, at approximately 9:10 p.m. when Seventh District officers responded to the 2300 block of Hartford Street, after receiving reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered the young victim suffering from a gunshot wound near the 2400 block of Irving Street, Southeast.

Emergency medical services, along with MPD officers, provided immediate aid to the child until she was airlifted by the United States Park Police to a local hospital. Despite efforts to save her life, she was tragically pronounced dead. Preliminary investigations suggest that the child was inside a vehicle at the time of the shooting.

The victim has been identified as 3-year-old Ty’ah Settles from Southeast D.C.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding this incident to refrain from taking action and instead contact the police at (202) 727-9099 or submit tips anonymously through the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.

The MPD currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for each homicide in the District of Columbia. In collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has contributed an additional $10,000, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives has added $15,000, bringing the total potential reward to $50,000.
