Romeo, the Tallest Steer in the World, Resides in Oregon Sanctuary
NEW YORK, NY—Romeo, a six-year-old Holstein steer from Oregon, has been officially recognized as the tallest living steer, standing at an impressive 6 feet 4.5 inches (1.94 meters). His story is as remarkable as his stature, having been rescued at just 10 days old by the Welcome Home Animal Sanctuary in Creswell, Oregon.
Misty Moore, Romeo’s owner and the co-founder of the sanctuary, emphasizes the steer’s dramatic journey from a dairy farm where male calves are often considered byproducts. Moore describes Romeo’s rescue as a fate-defying moment that paved the way for a life defined by safety, compassion, and attention.
Romeo is celebrated not only for his record-breaking height but also for his gentle and sociable nature, often described as “the sanctuary’s biggest softie.” His daily routine includes social interactions and activities involving humans, adding a unique charm to the sanctuary’s daily tasks. As a true foodie, Romeo’s diet consists of 100 pounds of hay, extra grain, and treats like apples and bananas each day.
