BOSTON, MA — A vigilant witness’s observation led to the recovery of a firearm and the arrest of a suspect in downtown Boston. The Boston Police Department reported the incident, which took place on Tuesday, June 4, at approximately 6:59 PM in the Downtown Crossing area.

Matiop Ayuel, 39, from Leominster, MA, was apprehended after a private security guard noticed him dropping a firearm on the ground near Chauncy St. and Summer St. The guard promptly alerted officers from District A-1 who were responding to a shoplifting call at the time.

The officers received a detailed description of the suspect and his direction of travel, enabling them to locate Ayuel in front of 85 Bedford St. Upon investigation, officers found a black semi-automatic Walther PPS .40 Caliber firearm concealed inside his pants. The weapon was loaded with a magazine containing five rounds of .40 caliber ammunition.

A-1 detectives have taken over the investigation, processing the firearm as part of their ongoing inquiries. The quick response and detailed witness description were crucial in the swift resolution of this incident.
