Arrest Made in June Double Homicide

Baltimore, MD – Detectives have arrested Munir Dawan Matin in connection with the murders that took place in the Western and Central Districts on June 2.

Matin, 36, of Baltimore, is accused of fatally shooting 32-year-old Terrell Johnson-Smith in the 900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue and 55-year-old Mark Grimes in the 500 block of West Mulberry Street.

On June 10, detectives from the Warrant Apprehension Task Force apprehended Matin in the 400 block of Fallsway. He was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, among other charges.

On June 2, at approximately 5:02 p.m., officers responded to gunfire in the 900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. A ShotSpotter alert corroborated the location. Upon arrival, they found Johnson-Smith suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts.

Earlier that day, at approximately 3:49 a.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 500 block of West Mulberry Street. Inside a business, they found Grimes with multiple gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced him dead shortly after. An unidentified suspect was seen fleeing the scene in a red Lexus.
