Former bank employee charged with stealing nearly $1 million from customer

BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ – Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw has announced the arrest and charging of Agha Hasan, a former bank employee, for allegedly stealing nearly $1 million from a customer’s account. Hasan, 41, is accused of using the funds to support side businesses, engage in real estate transactions, and cover personal expenses.

Hasan faces multiple charges, including Theft by Deception, Computer Criminal Activity, Misapplication of Entrusted Property (all Second Degree), three counts of Failure to File New Jersey Tax Returns, five counts of Failure to Pay Income Tax, and two counts of Filing False Returns (all Third Degree).

The investigation revealed that Hasan, over a six-year period, misappropriated $998,188 from the customer. Fraud investigators from Santander Bank alerted law enforcement to suspicious transactions after Hasan was terminated from his position at the Mount Holly branch office.

Hasan, employed by the bank since 2014, allegedly gained the customer’s trust by offering assistance with bill payments. He was arrested this morning at his residence in Bordentown Township and is currently held at the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly pending a detention hearing. The case is being prepared for presentation to a grand jury for possible indictment.
