Juvenile Injured in Kitchen Fire in Hurlock

HURLOCK, MD – On Wednesday afternoon, a grease fire in a Hurlock residence resulted in severe injuries to a juvenile. The incident occurred at 4:37 PM at a one-story, wood frame house located at 503 South Main Street.

The home, owned by the Nichols family, suffered an estimated $6,000 in damages, including $5,000 to the structure and $1,000 to contents. The fire, which originated on the kitchen stovetop, was identified by the injured victim as accidental. A smoke alarm was present and activated at the time of the incident, although there were no fire sprinklers installed.

The juvenile sustained third-degree burns to approximately 10% of their body. Following the incident, they were airlifted to Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore for treatment by Maryland State Police Aviation. The Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene with eight firefighters and controlled the blaze within 15 minutes.
