Three sentenced for roles in 2018 fatal shooting in jersey city

Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced that three defendants have been sentenced to prison terms for their involvement in the 2018 shooting death of Jayden Fondeur in Jersey City.

On Friday, the Honorable Mitzy Galis-Menendez sentenced Rayquan Carmichael, 23, of Jersey City, to 40 years in New Jersey State Prison for murder. This sentence will run consecutively to a seven-year sentence for an unrelated unlawful possession of a weapon charge and a four-year sentence for an unrelated burglary charge, totaling 51 years in prison. Isaiah Huggins, 24, of Jersey City, received a 42-year sentence for murder. Both Carmichael and Huggins were found guilty by a jury on March 13.

Jahmari Hector, 21, of Jersey City, was sentenced to six years in New Jersey State Prison. He is ineligible for parole until 85% of his sentence is served. Hector pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated assault on May 20. Hudson County Assistant Prosecutors Edward Bilinkas and David Feldman represented the state in this case.

On September 18, 2018, at approximately 6:25 p.m., Jersey City Police responded to a report of shots fired near Old Bergen Road and Pamrapo Avenue. Officers found Jayden Fondeur, 17, unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at 6:55 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the neck and ruled it a homicide.
