NEWARK, N.J. — Two members of a Jersey City gang associated with the Marion Gardens Housing Complex were sentenced for their involvement in multiple shootings and other gang-related activities, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced on Thursday.

Jakeem Gibson-Madison, also known as “Beanz,” 30, and Terick Rogers, also known as “Moot,” 32, both of Jersey City, were sentenced in Newark federal court by U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi. Gibson-Madison received a 15-year prison sentence, while Rogers was sentenced to 16 years. Both men were also ordered to serve five-year terms of supervised release following their imprisonment.

Court documents and statements made during the proceedings revealed that Gibson-Madison, Rogers, and others were members and associates of a street gang linked to the Marion Gardens Housing Complex. The gang was involved in the distribution of controlled substances, including cocaine and heroin, in and around the housing complex. The group also participated in acts of violence, targeting rival gang members and others.

Gibson-Madison was implicated in a shooting that occurred on January 9, 2019. He drove a fellow gang member to the area of Grant Avenue and Ocean Avenue, where the associate shot two victims and attempted to shoot a third, targeting a rival gang member.

Rogers, along with two other gang members, was involved in a separate incident on June 30, 2018. The trio collectively shot five people while celebrating “Meech Day,” an event held in honor of a deceased gang member.

U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited the successful investigation to special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James E. Dennehy; investigators from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, led by Prosecutor Esther Suarez; and the Jersey City Police Department, directed by Director James Shea. Their efforts were instrumental in bringing the charges that led to the sentencing of Gibson-Madison and Rogers.
