New York City Correction Officer Slapped With Rape Charges After Luring Woman to His Apartment

August 26, 2024

QUEENS, N.Y. — A New York City correction officer has been indicted by a grand jury on charges including first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse after allegedly luring a 20-year-old woman to his apartment under the guise of offering her an acting role. The indictment, announced by Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, follows the March 2024 incident in which the officer, Anthony Martin, is accused of assaulting and imprisoning the woman.

“This defendant – a New York City correction officer – lured a young woman to his home with promises of casting her in an upcoming television show,” District Attorney Katz said in a statement. “Instead, he allegedly sexually assaulted her and imprisoned the woman. Thank you to the brave survivor for coming forward. My office is committed to standing up for the survivors of sexual violence, and we have secured a grand jury indictment against the defendant for first-degree rape.”

Martin, 32, who resides on 161st Street in Springfield Gardens, was arraigned on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse, third-degree rape, and second-degree unlawful imprisonment. Supreme Court Justice Ushir Pandit-Durant ordered Martin to return to court on October 18. If convicted, Martin could face up to 25 years in prison.

According to the investigation, Martin contacted the victim through a social media platform, posing as a television producer and director casting for a new show. On March 26, 2024, the victim went to Martin’s residence, believing she would meet with other producers and potential cast members. Upon arrival, the victim found Martin alone, and when he began to touch her leg, she attempted to leave. Martin allegedly blocked her exit, forcibly removed her clothing, and raped her.

The victim later reported the attack to the police and sought medical attention.
