Breakthrough in D.C. shooting as suspect apprehended

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting earlier this month in Southeast D.C., officials announced Thursday.

The incident occurred on Thursday, November 7, at approximately 10:47 a.m., in the Unit block of 53rd Street, Southeast. Responding officers found a victim who reported being shot by an unknown suspect who fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital by DC Fire and EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, November 21, Sixth District officers located the suspect, identified as 21-year-old DeAngelo Jones of Southeast D.C., in the 400 block of Valley Avenue, Southeast. He was arrested pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (gun).

Police credited their investigation for identifying and apprehending the suspect two weeks after the shooting. Additional details surrounding the case were not immediately available.
