CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. – A Southern Maryland woman is celebrating after winning the $50,000 top prize on the Maryland Lottery’s Cash to Go scratch-off ticket, becoming the game’s first big winner.

The Charles County resident, a government employee, said she was “moonwalking” with excitement when she realized her win. “I couldn’t believe it. I had to get my glasses to double-check when I saw that I won,” she told Lottery officials.

The lucky winner discovered her prize at home while scratching off tickets. A matching number 7 on the $5 Cash to Go game revealed the $50,000 windfall, which she plans to use to pay bills and bring extra joy to her family’s holiday celebrations.

“My daughter was excited because it meant more Christmas gifts for her,” the winner said with a laugh.

She purchased the winning ticket at Atrium Wine and Spirits, located at 37680 Mohawk Drive in Charlotte Hall. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket.

The Cash to Go scratch-off, launched recently, offers additional $50,000 top prizes, giving other hopeful players a chance at a big win.
