The White Plains player hit the Bonus Match 5 top prize three times with the six numbers she had refused to give up for two decades
WHITE PLAINS, MD – A Charles County woman who spent 20 years playing the same six Lottery numbers finally watched her persistence pay off when those numbers hit the Bonus Match 5 top prize three times, delivering a combined $150,000 win.
The White Plains woman claimed the prizes Tuesday at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The winner, whose name was not released, purchased three winning tickets using the same six Bonus Match 5 numbers she had played for two decades. Each ticket won a $50,000 top prize, bringing her total winnings to $150,000.
After discovering what appeared to be a winning combination, she turned to her sister for confirmation.
Her husband, who does not play the Lottery, was not the first person she contacted about the potentially life-changing tickets. Instead, she called her sister, who was familiar with gambling, and had her read the winning numbers.
The winner’s husband later accompanied her to Lottery headquarters to claim the prizes.
Despite finally hitting the numbers she had played for 20 years, the woman told Lottery officials her initial reaction was relatively subdued because she discovered the win at approximately 11 p.m.
Going to sleep proved more difficult once the reality of the $150,000 windfall began to sink in.
The winner and her husband are both retired federal employees. They told Lottery officials they expect to use the money for several projects around their home.
All three winning tickets were purchased at White Plains Wine & Spirits, located at 4425 Crain Highway in White Plains.
The Charles County retailer will receive bonuses totaling $1,500 for selling the three top-prize tickets.
