Maryland man’s routine gas stop turns into a $50K lottery payday

by Local News Report

SALISBURY, Md. — A Salisbury man’s quick-pick Powerball ticket turned into a $50,000 Double Play prize after a series of coincidences led him to purchase the winning ticket at a Fruitland retailer.

The winner, an information technology professional who plays Powerball, Mega Millions, and occasional scratch-offs, purchased his ticket at Wine Rack, located at 100 West Cedar Lane. The ticket matched four white balls in the Feb. 1 Double Play drawing, securing a third-tier prize.

After scanning the ticket multiple times and receiving a “Take to Retailer” message, the winner and his wife compared the numbers and realized they had won. Wanting confirmation, he scanned the ticket again at a retailer and saw the same message, cementing their win.

The couple plans to use the prize money to pay bills, complete a home renovation project, and take a summer vacation.
