WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two young girls have been arrested in connection to a violent assault recorded on video near Union Station, part of a series of attacks circulating on social media.
Detectives began investigating Wednesday after discovering footage of multiple assaults. One video showed a group of juveniles attacking a female victim, repeatedly punching and kicking her as she walked outside the station. When bystanders attempted to intervene, they were also assaulted.
On Thursday, officers arrested a 13-year-old and an 11-year-old, both from Northeast D.C. The juveniles were charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy to Riot, Simple Assault, and Disorderly Conduct.
Chief Pamela A. Smith condemned the attack, stating, “There is absolutely zero tolerance for this behavior in our city.” Detectives are now working with other police departments to determine whether the suspects were involved in similar incidents.
