Washington, D.C. — A 33-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection with an armed carjacking that took place earlier in the week in Southeast, where a victim was forced at gunpoint to surrender their car and belongings.

The incident occurred Tuesday at approximately 7:00 p.m. in the 3700 block of 4th Street SE. A suspect approached the victim near their vehicle, brandished a firearm, and demanded both personal property and the car keys. The victim complied, and the suspect fled in the stolen vehicle.

Authorities arrested Micheal Mitchell of Northeast, D.C., on Friday. He has been charged with Armed Carjacking (Gun) in connection to the robbery.

Officials have not disclosed how Mitchell was identified or whether the stolen vehicle has been recovered. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The location of the crime is in a residential area of Southeast Washington, a neighborhood that has seen a rise in similar vehicular-related robberies in recent months.

Suspect charged following multi-day investigation

Mitchell was taken into custody without reported incident. It remains unclear whether additional suspects were involved or if any further charges will be filed.

The arrest marks progress in law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to address violent and firearm-related crimes in the District.
